Throughout the years, the Society has published several books and booklets that have proved instrumental in sharing the history of Hanover and her people with our citizenry. Of special note is A Sketch of the Early History of Hanover County and its Contributions to the American Revolution by Robert Bolling Lancaster, long used in classrooms throughout the area. Many of the illustrations of historic homes you see throughout our website are his drawings. Twenty years of research by the Society's Helen Yates produced the comprehensive Family Graveyards in Hanover County, Virginia, Volumes I and II. They are indispensable for those studying geneaology or history of our ancestors. Within our historic Court House are many portraits of our distinguished citizens, including a copy of the famous Thomas Sully (1783-1872)portrait of Patrick Henry. The Society has published a booklet detailing the paintings, as well as history of each individual's contributions to our County. The edition, along with a the Monument Book of names inscribed on the Monument to Hanover Confederate Soldiers which stands on the Court House lawn gives students of Virgina history a unique insight into the place Hanover holds in the events which have formed our Nation.
